Introduction
The municipality of Gargantilla del Lozoya and Pinilla de Buitrago is located in the Valley Medio del Lozoya, in the south slope of the Guadarrama, in the Community of Madrid.

Gargantilla del Lozoya and Pinilla de Buitrago they form an unique municipality with 412 inhabitants.

Placed to a height of 1134 meters on the level of the sea, in the left margin of the Rio Lozoya. His orography is rough, with a maximum altitude of 1514 meters in the Cerro  de la Cruz, from which the sight reaches to the whole Valley.

Founded a little time after that Garganta de los Montes, for neighbors of the same one who were fleeing of a deadly epidemic or for not wanting to pay the taxes and taxes that were corresponding to them. Previously another village existed in this term, today missing, called Santiago, of alone which we still have it like I bear witness to a hermitage, which alone preserves the walls and the beautiful tower of reed-mace.

Between the XVIth and XVIIIth century it is when there filled with stable form the term of Gargantilla del lozoya. In these lands there took place the ceremony  proclamation of “Juana la Beltraneja" as princess heiress of the Throne of Castilla, as well as her betrothals with the Duke of Guyena, brother of Luis XI of France.   

In the municipality the Parochial Church gets up in San Benito's honor Abuse, of current construction.

Pinilla de Buitrago has a history similar and parallel to that of Gargantilla del Lozoya, Information is had from the 16th century, year in which the Church was constructed and in the one that fills with stable form.

In the year 1753 it manages to become free of the Duke of the Infantado, master of the lands of Buitrago. At the end of the 19th century this term joins in an alone municipality with that of Gargantilla del Lozoya.

Fundado poco tiempo después de Garganta de los Montes, por vecinos del mismo que huían de una epidemia mortífera o bien por no querer pagar los impuestos y tributos que les correspondían. Anteriormente existía en este término otro pueblo hoy desaparecido, llamado Santiago, del que solo nos queda como testimonio una ermita, que solo conserva las paredes y la bella torre de espadaña.

Entre los siglos XVI y XVIII es cuando se pobló de forma estable el término de Gargantilla del Lozoya. En estas tierras tuvo lugar la ceremonia de la proclamación de Juana la “Beltraneja” como princesa heredera del Trono de Castilla, así como sus desposorios con el Duque de Guyena, hermano de Luis XI de Francia.
En el municipio se levanta la Iglesia Parroquial en honor de San Benito Abad, de construcción actual.

Pinilla de Buitrago tiene una historia similar y paralela a la de Gargantilla del Lozoya. Se tienen datos a partir del siglo XVI, año en que se construyó la Iglesia y en la que se puebla de forma estable.

En el año 1753 logra independizarse del Duque del Infantado, señor de las tierras de Buitrago. A finales del Siglo XIX este término se une en un solo municipio con el de Gargantilla del Lozoya.
